The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is pleased to invite nominations and applications for the position of Executive Dean (Dean), and encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply.

The College of Medicine has a 118-year history, training generations of pioneering physicians, surgeons, physician associates, scientists, scholars, and teachers. Every year the Dean and over 1,250 faculty proudly welcome nearly 165 medical students, 70 physician associate students, 42 graduate students, 17 post-doctoral researchers, and 260 residents and fellows to join the Sooner tradition. The College is part of the comprehensive OU Health Sciences Center, including five partner health professions colleges and a graduate college, research centers of excellence such as the Stephenson Cancer Center and Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, start-up companies at the University Research Park, and a strong affiliation with the non-profit academic health system OU Medicine, including OU Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital.

The Dean works with colleagues across the enterprise to elevate the academic health center’s impact, reputation, and prestige, and explores new ways to sustain and enhance the connections between the College’s academic and clinical missions.  The College’s dedicated alumni, donors, and supporters look to the Dean to be visible in the community and articulate the values and optimism of academic medicine, and the far-reaching benefits of philanthropy.  In addition, the Dean works with regional, state, and national leaders on topics related to academic medicine policies and legislation.

Competitive candidates will possess an MD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree with excellent academic accomplishments and credentials such as a history of funded research. The successful candidate will have a strong business sense and an understanding of what it takes to enhance all academic medical center missions in a competitive environment. Exceptional communication skills, financial acumen and the potential to fundraise are essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students and staff.
