Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) invites nominations, inquiries, and applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”).  The position is an extraordinary opportunity for a strategic, operationally competent healthcare executive to make a significant mark within a healthcare system.  SBUH is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) and part of Stony Brook University, a world-class research university and a member of the Association of American Universities best research universities in North America.  The CEO will report to the President of Stony Brook University, Samuel Stanley, Jr., M.D., and to the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean of the Stony Brook University School of Medicine, Kenneth Kaushansky, M.D.

Based in Stony Brook, New York, SBUH has 603 beds, over $1.2 billion in revenues and serves as the region’s only tertiary care center and Level I Trauma Center and is home to numerous research institutes and centers covering areas such as neuroscience, cancer, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, burn, psychiatry, pediatric multiple sclerosis and a children’s hospital with over 100 beds, among many other programs of excellence.  SBUH is the flagship hospital of Stony Brook Medicine and Long Island’s premier academic medical center.  SBM encompasses SBUH, six health sciences schools, as well as major centers, institutes, programs, and more than 90 community-based healthcare settings throughout Suffolk County.

The CEO is the senior executive overseeing all aspects of the hospital and related entities, accountable for the hospital’s quality of care, programs, growth, and financial strength.  The next CEO will lead SBUH in an integrated and complimentary way that supports the missions of excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service.  In addition, the successful candidate will be a transparent and collaborative leader comfortable leading and supporting change in a complex and progressive environment and demonstrate substantial leadership and management experience in healthcare operations, preferably in an academic medical center, with the ability to guide an academic institution that serves an involved community.  Candidates must have at least seven years of experience at a senior executive level within an academic medical center or academically affiliated hospital.  An advanced degree is required.
