The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Revenue Initiatives will serve as the leader of all Revenue Cycle (RC) pricing, charge capture, and vendor management for NYC Health + Hospitals (NYC H+H). The position, reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), will lead and oversee all Revenue Integrity, CDM, and vendor management across the system. Ongoing and proactive collaboration with all facilities, other Finance Department Leadership (Accounting, Reimbursement, and Budget), Ambulatory Care, Managed Care, Compliance and IT will be critical to the role and overall success of NYC H+H.

 General responsibilities include:

  • Lead and oversee system-wide Revenue Integrity, CDM, Program Management and Vendor Management functions
  • Oversee and integrate pricing and charge capture processes for all revenue cycle operations across the health system
  • Assist with new initiative development and deployment as well as continuous performance improvement efforts across the health system
  • Drive execution and transformational change across teams to ensure effective, efficient, sustainable, compliant, and leading-edge operations to contribute to the financial success of NYC H+H
  • Manage development of department policies tailored to NYC H+H’s operational practices to ensure organizational best practices
  • Oversee revenue cycle centralization efforts including leading and developing the change management strategy to ensure adoption and effectiveness
  • Oversee crafting and approval of pricing strategies and monitor industry-segment pricing trends and practices to ensure internal alignment
  • Oversee annual price adjustment process through pricing models and transparency tools, periodic review of national and market-specific analysis, and support of hospital pricing issues
  • Oversee the management of pricing strategies across the health system and maintain integrity of the Charge Master Description (CDM)
  • Oversee the health system’s charge integrity, reconciliation, late charge monitoring, and charge interfaces for all ancillary charging systems
  • Establish and maintain charge capture audit processes, both random and strategic, to check for appropriate coding and areas of potential revenue leakage; collaborate with HIM and Department leadership on improvement opportunities
  • Assist in development of overall revenue cycle vendor strategy; responsible for building and managing preferred vendor lists and other key relationships to achieve top performance and operations from vendor partners
  • Oversee team responsible for vendor selection and onboarding, performance, operations, and contract management to ensure adherence to standards
  • Oversee the development and execution of reimbursement policies and practices to improve revenue cycle processes and procedures, including standard net revenue reporting and budgeting tools, payment assumptions.
  • Oversee the development and execution of monitoring tools to ensure effectiveness of revenue cycle projects and processes related to revenue capture (timeliness of charge capture, DNFB, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with net revenue reporting, cost reporting, and achievement of full-potential revenue
  • Oversee compliance policies, processes and tools, including leadership and direction in review, analysis and interpretation of federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Represent NYC H+H to third party payers and regulatory agencies regarding reimbursement practices, policies and regulations
  • Interviews and hires appropriate personnel to meet departmental goals and objectives
  • Oversee the direction and development of the team to ensure effective growth and utilization of talent
  • Responsible for developing clearly defined team goals and objectives and the creation of key metrics and/or milestones to track and measure success
  • Ensure close partnership with EITS make changes and updates to charge master pricing when necessary and complete follow-up reviews to ensure intended changes are validated
  • Collaborate closely with Finance, Revenue Management Leadership, Ambulatory Care Leadership, Reimbursements Leadership, Managed Care, Compliance Leadership, Facility Leadership, and EITS Leadership
  • Other related duties

 Preferred Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or Health Administration and 10+ years of experience within revenue cycle operations, revenue metrics and analytics, and revenue management or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master’s Degree highly preferred
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in a multi-facility, integrated health care delivery system or consulting experience preferred
  • Requires knowledge of accounting systems and insurance issues, healthcare industry issues and trends, legal issues in field of expertise, required third party and governmental guidelines, and work processing

Knowledge/Special Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills; leads by example; promotes teamwork by fostering a positive, transparent and focused working environment which achieves maximum results
  • Managerial and supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; fluency in Epic and ability to manipulate large amounts of data
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in negotiation of complex systems to affect change
  • Understanding of organizational policies and procedures

This position requires about 25% travel to various NYC H+H facilities throughout NYC
