NYSHealth Foundation: “Shedding Light on Health Care Costs: A Conversation with Niall Brennan”
September 27, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Recent research released by the Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI) and NYSHealth found that spending per person in employer-sponsored plans in New York State reached an all-time high in 2017. The majority of spending growth came from price increases, rather than from increased use of health care services. Yet information about health care prices is too often shrouded in secrecy. Greater transparency–more public, accessible, user-friendly, and actionable data–could help patients, purchasers, policymakers, and providers make more informed decisions about health care.
Please join us for a conversation with Niall Brennan, President and CEO of HCCI, about pressing policy issues like health care spending, information transparency, and the promise of data-sharing. Mr. Brennan will also discuss the key findings and implications of the recent report on health care spending, prices, and utilization in New York State.
Mr. Brennan is a nationally recognized expert in health care policy, the use of health care data to enable and accelerate health system change, and data transparency. Prior to joining HCCI, Mr. Brennan was Chief Data Officer at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; he has also worked at the Brookings Institution, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, the Congressional Budget Office, the Urban Institute, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
