President: Victor Rodriguez, DDS

Dr. Victor Rodriguez is a native Texan, born and raised in Houston, Texas. Dr. Rodriguez has been a member of the Hispanic Dental Association since he first started as a student member in 1994. He has been involved in the Association's leadership, both nationally and locally, in multiple positions and committees for many years. Dr. Rodriguez is very active in numerous dental organizations such as the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry, and he holds current and past board and chairman positions in the Texas Dental Association, Greater Houston Dental Society, and Bay Area Study Club.

Dr. Rodriguez is very excited to be a liaison between the Membership Committee of the Hispanic Dental Association and newly forming professional chapters. The growth of new professional and student chapters is inspirational and motivational. He believes the grass root efforts of dentists, hygienists, assistants, and laboratory technicians at the local component level will be the key to success on a national level.

Currently, I am the President of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses and Nursing Director, at the Children’s Medical Services (CMS), Department of Public Health from 2006 to the present. Prior to that position I was the Assistant Nursing Director from 1999 to 2005. My professional experiences include Maternal-Child Clinical Nurse Specialist, 1994-1995, Assistant Nurse Manager, OB/C-Section/ Post-Partum/Nursery, 1991-1994, Nurse Preceptor/Staff Nurse/ High Risk Labor & Delivery, 1988-1991, Oncology/Radiation Staff Nurse, Beverly Oncology and Imaging Center, 1987-1988, Staff Nurse, OB/GYN Emergency Room, 1986-1987 and Patient Financial Services Supervisor, 1975-1986.

My professional organizations position have been the President, Los Angeles Chapter, National Association of Hispanic Nurses from 2006-2008, California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commissioner, from 2006-present, Board member of National Association of Hispanic Nurses-2004-2006, Health Professions Committee, Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano 38th district from 2003-present, Chapter President, Los Angeles Chapter, National Association of Hispanic Nurses from 1993-1996, March of Dimes, Professional Education Committee Member from 1998-present and Editorial Board Member - The Journal of Prenatal & Neonatal Nursing from 1997-2000.

I earned my Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in 1996, a Master of Science in Nursing in 1993 from the California State University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1990 from the California State University and a Nursing Diploma in 1986 from the Los Angeles County School of Nursing.

Immediate Past President: Norma Martinez Rogers, PhD, RN, FAAN

Overcoming the humble beginnings of growing up in public housing, Norma Martínez Rogers, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, associate clinical professor in the Department of Family Nursing at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio, has received a new national honor. Dr. Martínez Rogers was installed as president of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses July 16 during the organization’s 33rd national meeting in Boston.

Prior to her current position, she served as advisor for Regional and Minority Women’s Health for theDepartment of Health and Human Services. She also worked as a policy researcher for California’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development.

The A.H.M.H.P. is a not-for-profit tax exempt 501 (c) 3 organization founded in 1983 by a multidisciplinary group of Hispanic Mental Health professionals to address serious gaps in the mental health delivery systems affecting the Hispanic Community. Colin, Ph.D., is Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine, Co-Director of Child and Adolescent Psychology Externship Program and Senior and Supervising Psychologist, at NYU-Bellevue Hospital Center. She is the Past President of the Association of Hispanic Mental Health Professionals and Chair of Legislative Committee (2008-2010), Member Advisory Committee New York City Suicide Prevention Consortium, Member Advisory Committee Minority Mental Health Coalition, Member New York State OASAS Constituency Group, Member Advisory Committee Latino Mental Health Conferences.

President: Pedro Aponte, M.D

DMA is a non-for-profit organization sited in New York City, which offers multiple services to enhance professional development of our members. We are also committed to caring for the urban underserved Latino community by providing an ample spectrum of care, including preventive health education.

Immediate Past President: Miguel R. Hernandez, M.D.

Dr. Hernandez was born in 1973 and grew up in Ensanche Julia, Santiago City, Dominican Republic. He pursued his Medical Doctor degree at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), graduating in 1996. He is a member of professional associations and societies which include American Medical Association (AMA), American Psychiatry Association (APA) and Dominican Medical Association (DMA), Inc. of New York. He has been re-elected DMA president 2009-10 and is now DMA executive committee advisor 2010. In his commitment to help other doctors in need and serve the Hispanic community, he has emerged as one of the most influential and powerful voice in the DMA, which he has positively transformed with his hard work and visionary ideas during the last eight years.

President: Elena V. Rios, MD,
President, named to Hispanic Business Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics

Ms. Rios represents Hispanic physicians across the United States. She has lectured and published articles, received number awards from her peers and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

National Coordinator: Alvaro E. Galvis

Alvaro Galvis grew up the San Francisco Bay Area. He received a B.A in Religious Studies and a B.S. in Biology in 2002 from Santa Clara University, and an MS degree in Molecular Biology from San Francisco State University. He is currently a sixth year student enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) and Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community (PRIME-LC) at the University of California, Irvine

He has been involved with the Latino Medical Student Association since his first year in medical school. He was the co-chair of the UCI chapter in 2006 and served as mentorship chair from 2007-2009. He was elected as Southern CEO for the west region in 2008 and served for two terms. During his tenure he helped coordinate the unification of all regions into the new LMSA National. In 2009 he was honored to be elected as National Coordinator-elect and a year later was installed as National Coordinator.

Alvaro Galvis has always been a strong advocate of health for all underserved communities and increasing the number of minorities in medicine. He has devoted his career to the well being of others and upholding the mission of LMSA.
