Job Description The University of Iowa (UI) seeks an Associate Vice President for Human Resources (AVP) for University of Iowa Health Care (UI Health Care). UI Health Care, a $1.225 billion integrated medical enterprise that serves the missions of patient care, health science education, and biomedical research, includes the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa Physicians and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. This fully integrated model brings together the expertise of highly skilled professionals and sophisticated medical technologies to serve the people of Iowa and beyond.

The AVP functions as the senior Human Resources Leader for UI Health Care and will partner with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Carver College of Medicine, and University of Iowa Physicians leadership teams and with University HR (UI HR) to create successful UI Health Care strategies and to translate strategic priorities into UI Health Care and entity-level HR operating plans. S/he provides leadership for diversity objectives and promotes and supports a multicultural work environment.

The AVP HR reports directly to the Vice President for Medical Affairs. The AVP HR will also report to the UI HR Director for aspects of overall responsibilities that involve University-wide issues.
Qualifications Required Qualifications: a Master’s degree in human resources, public administration, business administration or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; 10+ years of progressively responsible HR leadership, to include: aligning HR programs to support organizational, financial, strategic and business objectives and complex organizational change; demonstrated leadership in the areas of service-driven HR functions that are responsive to multiple constituencies; demonstrated leadership experience promoting a diverse workforce and working effectively in a diverse environment; broad knowledge of HR functions, particularly in strategic recruitment and retention, employee and labor relations, compensation and benefits, and organizational development and change management in the context of a large workforce in a complex and diverse, multi-unit environment; and exceptional presentation and communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications: 5+ years of executive level human resource experience; experience aligning the visions of an integrated enterprise; leadership in labor relations and collective bargaining; demonstrated experience as a role model for effective leadership, building partnerships and influencing others; experience making quality-based business decisions; knowledge of progressive organizational development and employee relations practices; and healthcare and/or academic medicine experience.
