Jeannette Marrero has had a seasoned career that evolved over a 20 year period leading to her appointments as Interim Executive Director, which was preceded by the position of Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Executive at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center /University Hospital of Brooklyn. Her nursing administration experience is broad and has included such areas as Clinical Nursing, Hospital Administration and Education, as well as extensive experience with Cultural Diversity issues and Unionized Labor forces. Further, she has been a frequent speaker to community and Nursing groups.
Ms Marrero has served as Deputy Executive Director of Nursing and Patient Care Services at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Hospital, a member of the Health and Hospital Corporation in New York City, where some of her responsibilities included: Ambulatory Care, Peri-Operative Services, Health Information Management, Social Services, Emergency Services, Patient Relations and Nursing.
Prior to her tenure at Lincoln, she served as Hospital Administrator and Director of Nursing for the hospital for Joint Diseases/Orthopedic Institute in New York City. While at The Mt Sinai Medical Center, Ms Marrero was responsible for Ambulatory Care and Emergency Nursing.
Ms Marrero’s educational background includes a Nursing Diploma from The Newark City Hospital, Martland Medical Center School of Nursing, Newark New Jersey: a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and a Master’s in Administration from Long Island University, with additional studies at Jersey City State Teachers College, and a Post Masters Certificate in Nurse Education from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City
Ms Marrero has served on several professional and health care boards, most notably, the Board of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) as its National Treasurer from 2000-2002., as President of the New York Chapter NAHN (1996-2003) and Board Member (2003-2005).
Ms Marrero is also the Treasurer of the Board of the Association of Hispanic Healthcare Executive as well as the National Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Health.
Ms Marrero serves on the Board of Comunilife Inc a non profit organization, which provides housing, social and health care to mentally ill and HIV/AIDS clients.
Ms Marrero is President of her own consulting firm: J.M Consulting. As a consultant she has worked with a national managed care organization in the restructuring of one of its client’s claims/denial system, and is actively involved in the recruitment of foreign educated Spanish speaking nurses. Ms Marrero is an Adjunct Professor at The City University of New York, City College of Technology were she teaches in the Health Services Administration Program.
